Our Program

Sound View and The Harborfront Inn's way of giving back to the community takes shape every year through our Uncommon Art Artist Residence program. This year, we've invited a new group of emerging artists who will live and work throughout both properties to be inspired by the North Fork.

We give each artist the creative license to work anywhere they wish—you might spot them drafting a score in the Piano Bar, mixing media at Mitchell Park Marina, or turning our Gathering Studio into a temporary dark room. As part of the residency, each artist is invited to share something with the community (that's you) whether it be a live-streamed performance, a socially distanced workshop, or even a display of their craft.

Building a Creative Community

As artists, photographers and writers converge at Sound View and The Harborfront Inn, a powerful conversation of the creative community ignites. With regular, open dialogues for North Fork natives, we tap into the energy of community to celebrate inclusion and creativity. Our artist participants will host open working sessions, display key works, and perform, inviting the community into rare opportunities to witness the artist's journey, from inspiration to completion.

Megan Lee

Featured Artist in Residence

February 28th - March 7th

Megan Lee is a painter and graphic designer living in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. She plans to spend her residency to connecting back with nature and seeing. "My work has evolved to become more abstract and to involve object translation - an evolution that I think reflects my lifestyle in Brooklyn. I see a return to working from life and nature to be integral to my development as an artist. Potentially working en plein air in Greenport’s beautiful scenery and figuring out ways to integrate more figurative imagery into my abstractions is something I want to explore. Simply having breathing room and access to the space and nature will refresh my approach to my work. I am seeking a change in perspective and new relationships to progress my body of art."

Community Share: Megan will host a display of her works in the Sound View Lobby Lounge, March 5-7.
