Wellness, Art, Wine, and the Quiet Shift into Spring at Sound View
March has always felt like a threshold month to me on the North Fork. Winter hasn’t fully loosened its grip yet, but you can feel the shift happening everywhere. The light lingers a little longer over the water (sunsets after 6pm!), vineyards begin quietly preparing for a new growing season, and the Village slowly wakes back up.
At Sound View, we like to honor that transition with something a little more robust and intentional. Each year we dedicate March to wellness, creativity, and connection by creating space for both rest and inspiration before the energy of summer arrives.
Our March Month of Wellness brings together yoga, breathwork, sound healing, and movement practices designed to help guests and locals reconnect with themselves and the season. At the same time, our Uncommon Artist Residency continues with visiting artists sharing their work and ideas with the community, while the Nameless Writers Salon gathers readers and authors for evenings of storytelling and reflection through May.
In other words, Spring here is about slowing down just enough to notice the shift, engage with each other, and find inspiration before the summer season.
Welcome to Wellness
Every Sunday morning we begin the day with Morning Yoga with New Moon Health & Wellness in the Gathering Room from 8:30–9:30am. It’s one of my favorite weekly rituals. Practicing while the sun rises over the Sound is a gentle way to ground yourself before the day begins.
Special Sessions Throughout the Month of March
Throughout March we host a series of deeper wellness experiences designed to help reset the nervous system and move out of winter’s heaviness.
We begin the month with Sunset Yin Yoga on March 4, a slower, meditative practice focused on long-held poses that release tension in the body’s deeper connective tissues.
On March 11, we combine movement and energy work with a Yin Yoga, Reiki, and Sound Healing session, layering restorative poses with Reiki balancing and a closing sound bath.
A more playful and collaborative class arrives on March 14 with Partner Yoga, where participants explore balance and strength through shared movement.
Later in the month, Mary Cognat returns on March 18 for Transformational Breathwork, guiding participants through a powerful breathing practice designed to release stored energy and access deeper intuition.
One of my favorite moments each year is our Spring Equinox offering on March 20. This class marks the official arrival of spring with a dynamic yoga flow, breathwork, intention setting, and a closing crystal sound bath just in time to watch the sunset on the first day of the new season.
We close the wellness series on March 25 with Reiki and Sound Healing, an evening devoted to energetic reset and deep relaxation.
North Fork Wine Dinners
March is also when we start to feel the agricultural rhythm of the North Fork again.
On March 5th, The Halyard hosts a special Borghese Vineyard Wine Dinner & on April 9th, a Sparkling Pointe Wine Dinner, pairing seasonal dishes with wines from some of the region’s historic & unique vineyards. These evenings are always more than a meal, their conversations about the land, the vineyards preparing for spring, and the local producers who make this place so unique.
The Uncommon Artist Residency
March is an especially exciting month for our Uncommon Artist Residency, which brings contemporary artists to live and work on the property while engaging with the surrounding landscape and community. This March & April we welcome 6 incredible residents, each sharing an artist talk and studio tour during their stay.
Nell Daniel begins the month, presenting her work on March 8th. Nell’s textile-based installations draw inspiration from North Fork seaweed and coastal patterns, transforming familiar decorative forms into immersive sculptural environments.
On March 15th, Isadora Capraro shares her vibrant abstract figurative paintings exploring the connection between the physical and spiritual self.
The following week we welcome filmmaker Constance Tsang, whose work has recently been recognized at Cannes Critics’ Week. During her residency she will be developing a new feature film exploring memory, aging, and human connection.
Andrea Myers joins us March 22–28th, sharing her internationally exhibited textile and material work during a talk and studio visit on March 27th.
Tom Holmes is roadtripping all the way from Tennessee to create & display new paintings inspired by our unique property with a talk on Monday April 6th.
Finally, closing out the residency is figurative painter Boris Torres who will draw inspiration from live local models during his residency concluding with a talk on April 26th.
One of my favorite things about the residency is how open these conversations are. Guests and locals can sit with the artists, ask questions, and see work in progress in a way that rarely happens in traditional gallery spaces.
Words, Stories, and the Nameless Salon
Literature also has a home here in the off-season. We begin March with an Open Mic in the Piano Bar on March 2, hosted by singer-songwriter Julia King, an intimate evening where musicians, poets, and writers share new work. Later in the month, the Nameless Writers Salon returns on March 19th. These salons bring together emerging and established writers for evenings of readings and conversation centered on shared themes about creativity, love, and what it means to be human. The salons are intentionally small and conversational, closer to the historic literary gatherings they’re inspired by than a traditional reading. You can catch an open mic and salon every month until May!
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on the North Fork
March also brings one of the most beloved traditions on the East End: St. Patrick’s Day parades. What makes the North Fork special is that the celebrations stretch across several weekends, from the Cutchogue parade on March 14 to the Jamesport parade later in the month. Fire departments polish their trucks, bagpipes echo through the villages, and families line the streets in green. You can spend the afternoon celebrating with the community and still return to the quiet waterfront by evening.
Why Spring Is One of the Best Times to Visit
March sits in that rare pocket between seasons when the North Fork feels both alive and peaceful. Restaurants are easier to book. Roads are calmer. The winter light over the water is still soft and dramatic, but the promise of spring is everywhere. You can start the day with yoga overlooking the Sound, spend the afternoon visiting a local vineyard or artist studio, and end the evening with a glass of wine, a salon conversation, or simply watching the sunset.
For me, March is about intention… taking a breath before the momentum of the warmer months begins. And there’s no better place to feel that shift than right here by the water. Make sure to mark your calendars for the cherry blossom bloom at the end of April.
Book by May 25 and get 15% off your stay, plus a $25 dining credit.
