Spring into Greenport: Sip, Stroll & Soak It All In

As someone lucky enough to call Greenport home, I’m here to let you in on a little secret: spring might just be the best time to visit. After a long, quiet winter, our village wakes up in the most beautiful way—flowers bloom, the wineries open their doors a little wider, and there’s this energy in the air that you can’t help but catch.

If you’re thinking about a North Fork getaway, here’s a local’s guide to making the most of a spring trip to Greenport:

SIP YOUR WAY THROUGH THE VINES

Spring is when the vineyards are extra magical—before the summer crowds roll in. Some of my personal favorites:

  • Macari Vineyards: A must-visit for top notch wines & views. This family-owned vineyard spans 500 acres in Mattituck. The Rosé Room is a unique gem—if pink is your thing, then this space is for you. Get your cameras ready. Perfect for a private tasting. All of our guests receive a complimentary splash of sparkling.
  • Croteaux Vineyards: All rosé, every day. Their garden is pure springtime goals. You feel as if you’ve stepped into the french countryside. They are the only all rosé vineyard in the United States.
  • Kontokosta Winery: Just a quick drive—or better yet, a bike ride—from the hotel. You’ll sip wine on a bluff overlooking the Sound, and trust me, the views are next level.
  • Sparkling Pointe: Love bubbles? This place is for you. They specialize in sparkling wines created in the traditional méthode champenoise, and the bright, airy tasting room feels like instant celebration.
  • Borghese Vineyard: The original founding North Fork vineyard producing the best “old world” style wines. A small team with a big heart sharing their craft and proud history with visitors. Our guests have access to a guided cellar, vineyard, & tasting tour with the owner, Giovanni Borghese. No matter where you stop, you’ll find good wine, gorgeous views, and that laid-back North Fork vibe we’re famous for. With over 50 vineyards on the fork there is something for everyone.

GET OUTSIDE & SOAK IT IN

This is the time to ditch the heavy coats and get outside:

  • Arshamomaque Preserve: A local favorite for peaceful walks with your furry friends. The trails follow mill creek with saltwater marsh views, and tons of birdwatching.
  • Orient Beach State Park: Bring a picnic, your bathing suit, or rent a kayak—this spot has one of the best beaches and a killer sunset. With over 45,000 feet water views of Gardiner's Bay it is a unique maritime forest with red cedar, black-jack oak trees and prickly-pear cactus. Its natural beauty earned designation as a National Natural Landmark in 1980.
  • North Fork by Bike: One of the best ways to explore. You can cruise from the village to vineyards like Kontokosta, or just wander down back roads lined with spring blooms. Our hotel has Priority bikes available for all guests to enjoy!

SPRING SPECIAL EVENTS

Our little town loves an excuse to celebrate:

  • Greenport Cherry Blossom Festival & 5K: Streets lined with pink blossoms, plus a fun 5K if you’re feeling active (or just want cute photos—no judgment). Many of the shops and restaurants will host special Cherry Blossom themed drinks, bites, & more!
  • NOFO Live Celebration: Celebrate the hyper local instagram live show featuring local businesses, community leaders, & locals. Join the co-hosts Sunita Narma and Tracy Kessler to celebrate 3 years of this great show at The Halyard.
  • Lilac Blooms: A North Fork tradition honoring the start of the fishing season keeps your eyes and nose ready for this fragrant display of beauty on the north fork. There's no official festival or gathering but you know the fish is fresh and fluke is in season when the lilacs bloom.

VISIT GREENPORT GEMS

There’s always something new to discover at these great locations:

  • North Fork Art Collective: Local artists, cool gallery shows, and that creative energy that makes Greenport so special. There's always something happening or some new art to view.
  • East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation: Dive into the village’s maritime history (plus, it’s right by the marina, so perfect for a post-museum stroll). Make sure to check out the Lighthouse tours that start every May!
  • Greenport Harbor Brewing Co.: Kick back with a local brew at the original Greenport Brewery location in the historic fire department (right next to the original jail).

Spring in Greenport is pure magic. Whether you’re sipping wine by the water, dancing at the docks, or just wandering around town with a coffee in hand, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile.
